Visiting Disney World is an exciting adventure for families, but packing for the trip can be a daunting task, especially when considering the heat of Florida. With kiddos in tow, it's essential to ensure you have everything you need for a fun and comfortable experience. Here’s my comprehensive guide on what to pack for your magical trip!

MY BIGGEST TIP, ALWAYS: Go slow, take breaks, find air conditioning, swim in a pool, or take a nap! You've spent a lot of money. Try not to let the scale of your to-do list take over!

Clothing Essentials

When packing for a trip to Disney World, consider the hot and humid climate of Florida. Here’s what to include:

  • Lightweight Clothing: Opt for breathable fabrics like cotton or moisture-wicking materials to keep cool.

  • Comfortable Footwear: Sneakers or sandals with good support are crucial, as you’ll be doing a lot of walking. NO NEW SHOES! Trust me! Bring at least 2 pairs in case they get wet or cause blisters.

  • Swimwear: Your resort has a pool, or if you plan to visit water parks! Goggles are great too!

  • Light Rain Jacket: Afternoon showers will happen!

Sun Protection

The Florida sun can be intense, so it’s important to protect your family from harmful UV rays. Don’t forget to pack:

  • Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen: Choose a high SPF sunscreen that is water-resistant and suitable for kids. (spray & lotion + minis for your bag)

  • UV-Protection Sunglasses: Protect your children's eyes with sunglasses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays.

  • After-Sun Lotion: Consider packing aloe vera or a soothing lotion for any sunburn relief.

Hydration and Snacks

Staying hydrated is vital when exploring the parks in the heat. Here's how to ensure your family stays refreshed:

  • Reusable Water Bottles: Bring refillable water bottles to stay hydrated throughout the day. Water is FREE at all quick service locations & resort food courts (even a venti at Starbucks).

  • Electrolyte Packs: Consider packing electrolyte powders to mix with water for an extra boost.

  • Snacks: Pack snacks like granola bars, goldfish, or trail mix to keep energy levels up. I also try to keep protein shakes in the room. (Let's be honest, we're going to eat those Mickey pretzels & Dole Whips anyway!)

Park Essentials

When heading to the parks, there are a few must-have items to make your day smoother:

  • Backpack or Daypack: A lightweight backpack is perfect for carrying essentials while keeping your hands free.

  • Portable Phone Charger: Keep your devices charged for photos and navigation.

  • Stroller: If you have younger children, a lightweight stroller can be a lifesaver for tired legs. Also great for holding your belongings!

  • First Aid Kit: Include band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and any necessary medications (my essentials are Tylenol, chewable Motrin, Benadryl & Dramamine). Don't forget a thermometer!!!!

  • Cooling Towels, Mister, or Mini Fans: I found water bottles with misters on them for the kids.

  • Littles Tips: Autograph book, pens & glow sticks! Glow sticks are awesome for fireworks and nighttime waiting, walking, dinner, or stroller time.

Planning Your Days

Planning your days at Disney World can make a huge difference. Here are some tips to maximize your fun:

  • Arrive Early: Get to the parks before they open. This way, you can enjoy popular attractions with shorter wait times.

  • Take Breaks: Don’t forget to take breaks! Find a shady spot or a quiet area to recharge.

  • Use the App: Download the Disney app for real-time updates on wait times and dining options.

Enjoying the Magic

Disney World is all about creating magical memories. Here are some ways to enhance your experience:

  • Character Meet and Greets: Make time for character meet and greets. Your kids will love meeting their favorite characters!

  • Dining Reservations: Consider making dining reservations in advance for popular restaurants.

  • Capture the Moments: Don’t forget to take lots of photos! These memories will last a lifetime.

Packing for a trip to Disney World in Florida’s heat can be manageable with a little planning. By taking a few extra steps, you can ensure a magical experience for your family. Remember to check the weather forecast before you go and adjust your packing list accordingly. Enjoy your adventure in the happiest place on Earth!
