Disney Date Night: Part 1 - Boardwalk Magic

Writer: TorieTorie

Date Night Disney

Hey everyone! We're gonna kick off a new series all about Disney date nights because it's a question we get asked a lot. Now, I'm not exactly an expert on dating anymore since I’ve been out of the game for 15 years. Most of my dates involve my two kids coming along. But don't worry, this time, it’s adults only but in a future post within this series we'll discuss kid-friendly dates! My wife and I do make sure to go on an adults-only Disney trip at least once a year. So stay tuned for more tips and stories coming soon!

Let's dive into this post and talk about some date night ideas that don't require going to the park. And we'll also make sure to keep things budget-friendly. Just like a classic date night.

Disney's Boardwalk offers numerous spots that are ideal for a romantic evening. If you know me, you'd know that I actually prefer lounges over sit down restaurants. Surprisingly enough, lounges often create a more intimate atmosphere compared to many Disney dining establishments. Personally, my top pick is the AbracadaBar Lounge – it's where our night will begin!

AbracadaBar Lounge

The backstory of the AbracadaBar Lounge is that it used to be a secret hangout for magicians and entertainers. This group mysteriously disappeared, adding to the lounge's mystery. But don't worry, the lounge still maintains a sophisticated vibe without being too formal or boring. It's the perfect mix of intrigue and fun! You'll feel like you're stepping back in time with old-fashioned music, magical decorations, and quirky trinkets all around.

Margarita Pizza

When it comes to food, they offer delicious shareable bites and small plates. My top recommendations are their mouthwatering margarita pizza and crispy Aber fries with truffle sauce. If you're into cured meats and cheeses, they also have an amazing salami plate with assorted goodies, all from the kitchen of Trattoria al Forno.

As for drinks, they have an impressive selection of handcrafted cocktails. Some must-try options include the Parlor Trick, Pepper's Ghost, or The Magic Mirror. If cocktails aren't your thing, fear not! They also offer a wide variety of soft drinks, champagne, white and red wines as well as a handful of beers to choose from.

When it comes to having fun at the boardwalk, there's something for everyone. At Disney's Boardwalk resort, they often screen movies under the twinkling lights, which is a great free activity to enjoy. If you want to see how strong your relationship is, you can rent a Surrey bike and find out if you're still getting along when faced with literal uphill challenges. It's also a fantastic opportunity for people-watching. And on certain nights, you might even catch some talented street performers in front of the Boardwalk Resort.

For dessert, you should definitely check out the underrated BoardWalk Deli. However, if it were up to me, I'd recommend taking a stroll over to Disney’s Beach Club Resort and indulging in some ice cream at Beaches & Cream Soda Shop. You can either make a reservation or simply walk up to their window. It's tough to decide what to get because everything is so delicious! Personally, I would suggest trying the SNICKERS Sundae, Mint Chocolate Chip double hand scooped cone or the Grasshopper Float. But if you really want to impress your date (and possibly regret it later), go ahead and order the Kitchen Sink - it's meant for four people but challenge yourself and see how much you can handle before tapping out!

You only live once, so we ain't stopping the night here. For those who love to dance (or can't and just don't care), you gotta check out the Atlantic Dance Hall, usually open till 1 AM. If that's not your cup of tea, stay put and catch a glimpse of the Epcot fireworks.. But for me, I gotta wrap up the night at Jellyrolls!

Jellyrolls is this awesome dueling piano bar that's tucked away at the end of the Boardwalk Resort. Just a heads up though, there's a cover charge of around $22 per person and you gotta be 21 or older to get in.

I love Jellyrolls because the musicians there are insanely talented. It blows my mind how they know so many songs by heart and play them without any sheet music. I mean, I struggle to remember people's names or the year we got married!

And speaking of songs, they're not just limited to Disney tunes at Jellyrolls. If you stick around long enough, you might catch them jamming out to Rocket Man or Piano Man.

Oh! Here's a tip: bring some cash if you wanna request a song. And it might be better to ask for one song at a time so your chances of hearing it go up.

But let me tell ya about this unforgettable experience we had at Jellyrolls... I asked one of the musicians if they could play "Live Forever" by Oasis - yeah, kinda questionable choice, but it holds a special place in my heart. Anyway, while they were performing and discussing my request onstage, one of them went backstage and learned the whole song in less than an hour! They came back out and played it just for us! Absolutely mind-blowing!

And that wraps up our Disney date night adventure! We hope these ideas have sparked your imagination and inspired you to plan a magical evening with your special someone. Whether it's sipping cocktails at AbracadaBar Lounge, strolling along the lively BoardWalk, enjoying a movie under the stars, pedaling on a surrey bike, or singing along at Jellyrolls – there's no shortage of enchantment to be found.

Until next time,

Shank
